I am passionate about providing a warm and nurturing environment for children supporting the wonder of nature exploration and sustainability. I look forward to meeting you all and learning alongside your child.
Kia Ora I am Sonia. I am from India. After completing my early childhood qualification from NZTC, Auckland, this is my first full time job at Learning Curves. I love working with children. In my personal philosophy, I believe that a teacher is like a second mother of the child. I believe in developing strong communication with children. I respect the diversity of multicultural environment. As a teacher my role is to empower children’s learning and exploration. While having professional qualification in Science, I accredit that natural environment is equally important in exploring and enhancing child’s learning. I value the strong bonding between teachers, children, families/whanau and the community. I strongly believe in providing them a safe and secure environment which helps them to grow as confident, creative and innovative individuals. Being an early childhood teacher, I have firm faith in bicultural practice in an early childhood setting. I am really excited to explore more potential of mine while working with lovely children of Learning Curves at Redwood.
Kia ora - my name is Selena and I am so pleased about becoming a teacher here at Redwood Learning Curves, and being part of your child's learning journey. But who am I? Well I’m a Christchurch girl, married to an Invercargill boy called Kayne and we have two beautiful children, a wee boy Patu (who's here at Redwood with me), and wee girl Nayeli (who's at the Learning Curves Nursery). We also have a lovely German Shepherd called Sasha. I graduated in 2010 with my Diploma of Teaching, and started work at a Centre (by the airport), inspired by the Reggio Emilia philosophy. I worked there for about 3 1/2 years before leaving to go for a 3month holiday around Europe. When I came back I started work at Learning Curves (Abberley Park), and have worked there for the last 4 years. I was offered the opportunity to work at Redwood and I said "Yes please". I really enjoy the respectful values which underpin some of the Montessori philosophy and have a strong commitment to Maori tikanga/culture in my teaching practice. I also have a wild imagination and love getting creative and exploring ideas with tamariki/children based on their interests and ideas.
