While in my final year of study I became pregnant with my beautiful daughter Anahera, who is now two. I took one year off to spend at home with her and have been working here at the nursery since March 2014. I believe that children should be provided with a safe, loving and nurturing environment to grow and explore the surrounding materials. I look forward to getting to know your family.
Opened in 2009, we are Christchurch’s first exclusive Nursery, catering for children from 0 – 2 years. We are licensed for 16 children from 0 – 2 years and have 5 full time qualified teachers each day to provide support. We converted a beautiful villa in St Albans with the focus on providing space and fun within a warm home away from home. Our environment enables your child to discover and learn. The teaching team provides a caring, loving environment where cuddles, kind words and fun coupled with a warm and inviting spacious layout, offers your child the next best thing to home.
Our indoor environment is warm, spacious and friendly; we do not have high chairs but have low stools and tables enabling children to move freely and independently within the environment. Our Nursery has a separate sleep room to provide an area of rest for infants and toddlers. Children have individual free standing cots or stretchers so that the home environment is replicated as much as possible in our Nursery. Our equipment is imported from Italy and is made from beautiful timber of solid construction. We have specifically designed gym equipment for infants and toddlers promoting the development of essential motor skills that enhances movement, language and sensorial discovery. Our programme is based on fun, positive interactions and communication with young children as individuals and in small groups. As well as offering fundamental Montessori activities our programme encompasses music and movement, water and sand play, art and craft, story time and rhymes, puzzles and blocks.
Our outdoor environment is large and has a very homely feel with a large natural grass area, sandpit, climbing equipment including a slide, well developed trees and garden and has a large shade umbrella to provide protection from the sun.
Our focus is on the whole child. The choices of activities are carefully selected to provide interest, variety and the necessary learning experiences. Our programme fosters language, communication, coordination and fun, increasing the child’s social skills and awareness.

I have a passion for infants and toddlers because I believe that they need respectful interactions and relationships through the first years of their lives. I believe in developing strong and positive relationship with the whānau, so that the child’s development and learning can occur through the home and centre setting. I look forward to building and maintaining strong relationships with the teaching team, you and your children and the community on my journey through my teaching career.
Hello! My name is Emma and I am a Teacher here at Learning Curves Montessori. In 2020 I proudly completed my Bachelor of Early Childhood Eduction. I started working at Nursery shortly after my first year as a teaching in training in 2018, where I had my first teaching placement here, I was so lucky when I got offered a position to stay. I plan to further my studies this year (2021) completing the Montessori Diploma and I would really like to do a Te Reo Maori course in the future. I truly think being an Early Childhood Educator is so rewarding and I have already learnt so many things. It makes me happy to know I have a little input in young children's learning and development. I look forward to everyday I teach :)
Kia ora, my name is Trudy. I commenced my employment at Learning Curves Montessori Nursery on the 13th January 2020. I am married to Chris and have two son’s Flynn 21 and Cole 19. I have always had a passion for teaching children and this journey started for me when I was 14 years old when I began babysitting. Once my own children came along, I was an in-home educator for 7 years and then at 40 decided it was time to get a Bachelor of Teaching (Early Childhood Education). I completed this in July 2019. I have been working in my dream career with Infants and Toddlers for the past 3 years and have an absolute passion for teaching this age group. I am passionate about building strong respectful relationships with not just the children/tamariki, but also their families/whānau. I see this as crucial to children’s/tamariki and families/whānau sense of belonging within a centre. I am also passionate about respectful care, freedom of movement, Kaupapa Māori principles and Tikanga Māori practices. I am looking forward to learning more about Montessori teaching and the journey ahead at Learning Curves Montessori Nursery. Outside of work, I enjoy walking (this sometimes includes dancing when I think no-one is watching), dancing, furthering my teaching knowledge, camping, fishing and spending time with my family/whānau. I look forward to being a part of your child's learning journey within the nursery.
Kia Ora Nursery Whanau! I am currently studying my Bachelor of Teaching (ECE) Through nztc, I am due to finish at be qualified early next year! I have a great passion for infants and toddlers especially when it comes to providing environments that allow infants and toddlers to explore freely and openly to develop in their own time and space while discovering the world around them and how it works! When I'm not being a teacher and a student I am being a mum to my two beautiful children, Boston who is almost 7 and Bayley who is 1. You will often see Bayley around as she also is at Nursery with us! I am so excited to be part of the Nursery Team! And look forward to meeting you and your children!
Kia Ora, my name is Kerri-Anne and I am one of the teachers here at Learning Curves Montessori Nursery. I graduated from Otago University Teachers College with a Bachelor of Education endorsed in Early Childhood Education. I have worked at our lovely nursery for three years and I have recently moved into the Head Teacher role. Since starting at nursery I have completed my Montessori Diploma and I am currently working towards a Postgraduate Diploma in Infant and Toddler Learning and Development. I have found through my teaching and study that I have a passion for working with infants and toddlers and the importance of the first 1000 days in creating foundation of learning in the early years of the child. I believe that children thrive in a caring, nurturing, safe, and supportive environment where they can explore and develop their learning at their own pace. I believe that respect is a big part of working with children, respecting the childs choice, as well as respecting their family/whanau and other staff members. This includes developing repsonsive and reciprocal relationships with children and their family/whanau. When working with infants and toddlers I believe in encouraging their independence through structured and free play learning experiences. When I am not at work I really enjoy spending time with my family and friends, travelling and exploring new places, reading, baking, being in the outdoor environment, and watching movies. I look forward to getting to build strong relationships with you and your children, as well as the teaching team to provide the best care for your child.
